FINALLY getting into September now!!! Here we are at the parade that went down my parent's street! It was great! We got there early - had plenty of food and had a GREAT seat for this long and surprisingly good parade!
Here is the crew! Steve and Papa chillin in the back. Dan, Nana and Aunt Jackie make up the second row - that empty seat in the middle is mine! :) And the front row, of course, is for all the candy "picker uppers" - Jack, Luke, Nick and Henry!
Henry didn't get the whole gist of it raining candy - he was a tiny bit freaked out...so he found a happy seat on his daddy's lap!
Hmmm....wonder what scared him??? Actually, I don't think this clown bothered him at all but I must admit that I'm not a HUGE fan of clowns - they do still freak me out, just a bit! This guy was cute though, and I LOVED his dog!
The parade was on September 11th - a day that I will certainly never forget. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I guess, we were living just an hour from New York City in 2001 when the Twin Towers fell. Many of the kids that I taught lost parents in that horrific act of terrorism - our world certainly changed. While people were definitely impacted by such a tragedy here in the Midwest, I guess b/c they didn't see all of the missing people posters and their family members making pleas on the television morning, noon, and night for days and days...it was definitely more 'removed.' Our crowd was definitely very patriotic though as we all had our flags out and ready though for the parade! Nick happily smiled with his flag!
Jack, as the oldest of the grandkids, gathered tons of loot! Here he is showing some of his goodies! Notice the balloon tied to his wrist, balloon attached to the kazoo and even a bracelet on his wrist! What a parade!
I just HAD to get this picture of Aunt Jackie and Buka - check out their matching blues - their shirts and eyes!!!
After the parade, we headed into the backyard for some desserts and a bonfire! What a great fall night!

Hank was scared of the loud sirens from the cop cars and fire trucks.
It sure was convenient having the parade go right in front of the house like that.
