After all our fun on Sunday - with a trip to Grant's Farm and a fab game of Minute to Win It as well as a slumber party at Nana and Papa's house, we woke up on Memorial Day to a delicious brunch and a quick trip to the park. Aunt Jackie and I went for a run while the kids all played! Because it was so hot that day, we busted out the Slip n Slide. The kids loved it!
It looked like so much fun - and since all her grandchildren asked Nana to take a ride on it herself - she suited up and went for it! I had just gotten out of the shower when Papa came in and told me to watch Nana on the slide. I did and managed to see her on about her fifth time running, only this time, as she was running, Uncle Bryan heard a pop and it was Nana's ankle. Dan and Papa took Nana to the hospital and as it turns out, she ended up having surgery on Tuesday morning to place a plate, five screws and a pin in her ankle to hold together her broken tibia and fibula! Here is Nana immediately after surgery (sorry for posting Mom, but I thought Papa's expression was pretty funny!)
Uncle Bryan had to head back to Memphis on Tuesday but Alyssa was able to stay with us. Although we had lots of fun activities planned we still managed to have fun!
Nana and Alyssa watching Cinderella!
Papa, Aunt Jackie, Alyssa and I were at the hospital all day on Tuesday, but we did manage to get away for a quick lunch...
...and then a much needed nap...
Wednesday was a new day though, and Nana got to come home!!! Don't ya just LOVE her bright red cast??? It seems that she will be non weight bearing for 6 weeks (although I'm writing this now and she is almost 5 weeks into that!)
Of course the party continued and we all enjoyed sno cones at Nana and Papa's house Wednesday night!!! Thanks Papa for making them!
Jack, Alyssa and Nick happily posed for my pic...Luke wanted nothing to do with the pic - he only wanted to enjoy his ice cold treat!
Even Henry was enjoying the evening...and the sno cones!
Three cheers go out to Nana for possibly being the hippest grandma out there...I mean, not many grandmas can say they broke their ankle sliding on the slip in slide with their grandchildren! And, even though the week wasn't exactly what we had planned, the family still managed to have fun! Love you, Mom!
