We left Nintendo World and hopped on the D train (subway!) straight to Yankee Stadium. The ride was great, we were early so we all got seats, but trying to buy tickets was a bit more difficult. Dan had to buy metro cards, put money on them, then swipe them to get into the area with the train. The whole swiping part gave us a bit of trouble, but we forged through and all five of us got on the train safely! Dan and Nick are buying our cards!
After a quick purchase of three kids' Yankee hats from a street vendor right off the subway we crossed the street to the new (and absolutely beautiful!) Yankee Stadium! Who knew the Bronx could clean up so well!!! There were tons of Yankee employees holding signs that said "How can I assist you?" Of course I jumped on that and had a family picture taken in front of the stadium!
We left Times Square at 10:30, as I was thinking it was a 12 game, b/c that is what time we watch them here in the midwest. Unfortunately I forgot that games really start on the east coast at 1, so we got to the stadium super early. Early enough, in fact, that we could actually get into Monument Park - a place that even Dan had never been to even in the old stadium!
We walked through this fairly small area dedicated to all the retired Yankee numbers and players! Many people commented on our three cute little boys (which helped me have the courage to ask these New Yorkers to take our picture!). It is times like this that I love having three boys! Luckily I too am a baseball fan and thought this was pretty cool!!! We took TONS of picture here - I could seriously make one single scrapbook on our Yankee game - but I have included just one of the entire family with Babe Ruth's monument!
Dan getting his first look at the new field with his three boys! LOVE this pic!
Once Dan had his moment with the new field, we headed to the concession stand. I honestly had budgeted a couple hundred dollars as I knew Dan would want to stay for the entire game and you can't bring snacks into Yankee Stadium, and food always keeps the kids happy! Anyhow, the boys all got hotdogs and I got a whole lot of nothing after I saw the calories of all the baseball park favorites! Yep, they list the food item, the number of calories and then the price! Very cool, Yankees!!! I had to snap a quick picture, even though you really can't make everything out!
Here is Dan enjoying his $12 beer (I think!) Enjoy, stud!!!
We then went and found our seats and to our surprise, they were GREAT! Then another fun thing happened. A couple with three grown men plop right down in front of us and the woman turns around and says, "this will be you guys in twenty years." Turns out she and her husband had three boys (now all grown up!) that were spaced in age much like our three. They were so nice to talk to (especially since we had arrived so early!) The dad of the crew offered to take a picture of us!
Mommy and her three little men!
Probably my favorite part of a Yankee game is when the grounds crew comes up to rake the field and they play YMCA and the crew does the hand motions! Too funny! The boys liked it too!!!
The day was wonderful, great weather (notice no rain!), great company in such a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the Yankees lost to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, but Dan didn't even mind, as he truly was in baseball heaven for a few hours on Saturday!!!
